GENTIANE MG TRIO

Gentiane MG est une pianiste et compositrice basée à Montréal lauréate de plusieurs prix. Pour elle, la musique passe avant tout par l’introspection, l’émotion et l’imaginaire. Son univers se nourri de plusieurs traditions, allant du jazz contemporain, au bebop, à la musique classique — des influences qui font partie intégrante de sa vie depuis l'enfance.

​Sur scène, elle partage son univers avec le bassiste Levi Dover et le batteur Mark Nelson, deux figures importantes du jazz de création au Canada. Le trio compte trois albums à son actif : Eternal Cycle (Arté Boréal, 2017), Wonderland (Effendi, 2019) et Walls Made of Glass (TPR Records, 2022) et prépare une nouvelle sortie pour mars 2026. Cette sortie sera suivie de tournées en Europe et au Canada.

​Intitulé Can you hear the Birds?, le nouvel album est une invitation à la rencontre et au partage avec l’être humain sous toutes ses formes. La musique y est conçue comme un chant jouant avec les contrastes du clair-obscur, à la fois lyrique et rythmée, avec des zones d’ombre qui entraînent l’auditeur dans un voyage au cœur de son propre imaginaire.

Ses albums lui ont valu plusieurs distinctions, dont celui du Meilleur album de jazz de l’année (2023), le prix OPUS de l’Artiste de l’année (2020), le prix François-Marcaurelle de la Guilde des musiciens du Québec (2019) et le prix Révélation Radio-Canada (2019). Le dernier album, Walls Made of Glass, a également été nommé aux prix de l’ADISQ (Québec) et des JUNO (Canada) en 2024. À la suite de cette dernière parution, le trio s’est produit plus d’une cinquantaine de fois au Canada, au Mexique, en Allemagne, aux Pays-Bas, en Italie, en Hongrie et en France. Parmi les lieux notables figurent le Festival de jazz d’Echternach (Luxembourg), le Unterfahrt Jazz Club (Munich), le Festival International de jazz de Montréal le Sunside Jazz Club (Paris) et le Opus Jazz Club (Budapest).

INFOS : Le Gentiane MG trio bénéficie du soutien de Musicaction et de la SODEC (gouvernement canadien et québécois) pour ses tournées internationales, couvrant notamment les frais de transport et d’hébergement. Le trio est également disponible pour la présentation d’ateliers et de masterclasses, et demeure ouvert à la négociation des conditions financières. Gentiane MG is an award-winning pianist and composer based in Montreal. For her, music is above all about introspection, emotion, and imagination. Her world is nourished by several traditions, ranging from contemporary jazz, to bebop, to classical music—influences that have been an integral part of her life since childhood.

On stage, she shares her world with bassist Levi Dover and drummer Mark Nelson, two important figures in Canadian creative jazz. The trio has three albums to its credit: Eternal Cycle (Arté Boréal, 2017), Wonderland (Effendi, 2019) and Walls Made of Glass (TPR Records, 2022) and is preparing a new release for March 2026. This release will be followed by tours in Europe and Canada.

Entitled Can you hear the Birds?, the new album is an invitation to encounter and share with human beings in all their forms. The music is conceived as a song that plays with contrasts of light and dark, both lyrical and rhythmic, with areas of shadow that take the listener on a journey into the heart of their own imagination.

Her albums have earned him several awards, including Best Jazz Album of the Year (2023), the OPUS Award for Artist of the Year (2020), the François-Marcaurelle Award from the Quebec Musicians' Guild (2019), and the Radio-Canada Revelation Award (2019). Their latest album, Walls Made of Glass, was also nominated for ADISQ (Quebec) and JUNO (Canada) awards in 2024. Following this latest release, the trio has performed more than 50 times in Canada, Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, and France. Notable venues include the Echternach Jazz Festival (Luxembourg), the Unterfahrt Jazz Club (Munich), the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Sunside Jazz Club (Paris), and the Opus Jazz Club (Budapest).
