JOCELYN MENARD / CARIBBEAN JAZZ GROUP

Saxophoniste, compositeur et arrangeur, Jocelyn Ménard est un musicien de jazz d’origine canadienne. Formé à Montréal puis à New York [George Coleman], il joue avec le Bernard Primeau Jazz ensemble, le Big Band de Vic Vogel et différentes formations allant du Jazz à la musique latine, et participe à de nombreux festivals.

Il s’installe en Guadeloupe en 1988 pour enseigner. Il joue régulièrement avec André Condouant, Happy Lewis, Christian Amour, Charlie Chomereau-Lamotte, monte plusieurs projets en big band [Big Band Mavounzy, Gwadloup Big Band…] et en petites formations [Men Art Jazz 4tet, An’nax, Guanada…] avec Normand Deveault, Raymond Grego, Raymond d’Huy, Dominique Bérose etc. Outre des participations sur plusieurs disques de jazz caribéen, il produit son premier album Men Art Work’s en 2001 avec la participation d’Alain Jean-Marie. Il ouvre finalement sa propre école de musique en 1997, qui comptera jusqu’à une douzaine de professeurs. Il a également participé au projet électro-ka de Rico Toto, joué avec Mario Canonge et Paul Lay et s’investit dans des créations théâtre et musique avec le comédien Gilbert Laumord. Ces dernières années il a développé son projet Gwanada en sextet et big band, présenté au Festival de Jazz de Pointe-à-Pitre en 2007 avec la participation entre autres de Michel Cusson. Ses compositions sont rassemblées dans son album, Terre Mère, enregistré entre Paris, la Guadeloupe et Montréal, et qui parait en décembre 2012. Jocelyn fait tourner ses compositions au sein de diverses formations, dont un quartet à Paris avec Mario Canonge. Il retrouve le pianiste en 2013 pour un duo en Guadeloupe. Son projet « Biguine & Jazz » est retenu pour une tournée CEDAC début 2015. Jocelyn Ménard monte en 2018 un projet ambitieux qui mêle différentes formes artistiques, MixArt. Le concept débouche l’année suivante sur le spectacle Pwofesi A Man Jàn qui est présenté au Centre Culturel Sonis.

Saxophonist, composer and arranger, Jocelyn Ménard is a jazz musician of Canadian origin. Trained in Montreal and New York [George Coleman], he plays with the Bernard Primeau Jazz Ensemble, Vic Vogel's Big Band and various groups ranging from jazz to Latin music, and participates in many festivals.

He moved to Guadeloupe in 1988 to teach. He plays regularly with André Condouant, Happy Lewis, Christian Amour, Charlie Chomereau-Lamotte, and sets up several big band projects [Big Band Mavounzy, Gwadloup Big Band...] and small groups [Men Art Jazz 4tet, An'nax, Guanada...] with Normand Deveault, Raymond Grego, Raymond d'Huy, Dominique Bérose etc. In addition to his participation on several Caribbean jazz records, he produced his first album Men Art Work's in 2001 with the participation of Alain Jean-Marie. He finally opened his own music school in 1997, which will count up to a dozen teachers. He also participated in Rico Toto's electro-ka project, played with Mario Canonge and Paul Lay and is involved in theater and music creations with the actor Gilbert Laumord. In recent years he has developed his Gwanada project in sextet and big band, presented at the Pointe-à-Pitre Jazz Festival in 2007 with the participation of Michel Cusson. His compositions are gathered in his album, Terre Mère, recorded between Paris, Guadeloupe and Montreal, and released in December 2012. Jocelyn tours his compositions in various formations, including a quartet in Paris with Mario Canonge. In 2013, he met the pianist again for a duet in Guadeloupe. His project "Biguine & Jazz" is selected for a CEDAC tour in early 2015. In 2018, Jocelyn Ménard created an ambitious project that mixes different artistic forms, MixArt. The following year, the concept led to the show Pwofesi A Man Jàn which was presented at the Sonis Cultural Center.

Finally, for the past two years, Jocelyn Ménard (saxs & compo) has been developing the repertoire of his Caribbean Jazz Group composed of Leedyah Barlagne - vcl; Jean-Michel Lesdel - pn; Régis Thérèse - bs; Klod Kiavué - ka & percs; Sonny Troupé - drs:
